Response to Intervention RtI: The Key to “All” is Every 2010-2011 RtI Basics in BASD
Food for thought… RtI is about intervening and adjusting instruction to meet students’ needs instead of thinking there is something “wrong” with the child.
Response to Intervention After this session, you will have a shared understanding of the Basics of RtI listed below. • Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum for all • Data-based decision making • Balanced assessment with problem solving team approach in a professional learning community (PLC) • Targeted interventions with progress monitoring • Specially Designed interventions with progress monitoring
Tier III (5%) Intensive interventions progress monitoring Very small groupwork Tier II (10-15%) Selected interventions progress monitoring Small groupwork Specialized Focus support and extend tier I. Tier I ( 80% shows adequate growth within the core.) Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum for all students universal screenings for all differentiation for all Ongoing thoughtful assessment that monitors individual student progress over time.
Tier I: Focus on the Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum for All • The curriculum with topics and common core standards that are actually taught and assessed in all classrooms. • Teaching the essentials in sufficient depth, with adequate time for authentic literacy: deep reading, writing, and talking. • Structurally sound lessons that ensure that all studentsare learning.
Quality Intervention! • It takes a knowledgeable professional to diagnose student needs. It is student centered. • Instructional efforts are coordinated between tiers I and II. • Interventions are highly engaging interactions. • The focus is on acceleration over remediation. • It requires rich assessment that incorporates both formative and summative measures.
