James Gatz Jay Gatsby -James Gatz born in North Dakota -worked as clam-digger & salmon-fisher; realized he wanted more for himself ... -bought mansion in West Egg and began throwing fabulous summer parties to try and gain Daisy’s attention (~1921) -meets Nick Carraway; his plan comes alive (1922)

  3. -James Gatz born in North Dakota -worked as clam-digger & salmon-fisher; wanted more for himself -attended college of St. Olaf in southern Minnesota - worked as a janitor, despised it -moved back to Lake Superior -saw Dan Cody’s yacht drop anchor in a dangerous spot; saved him -changed his name to Jay Gatsby (17 years old) -employed by Dan Cody; sailed w/ him for 5 years

  4. -Cody died; got cheated of inheritance by Ella Kaye -dated Daisy in Louisville (October, 1917) -said goodbye to Daisy; left for World War I (1917) -came back from war (1918) -got involved in business with Wolfsheim, made a lot of $ -bought mansion in West Egg and began throwing fabulous summer parties to try and gain Daisy’s attention (~1921) -meets Nick Carraway; his plan comes alive (1922)
