Key activities for 2015/16 • Approval of Timber Dimensional Measuring Devices (TDMD) • first TDMD technology approved for use in Canada in December 2015 • log scanning technology has potential to revolutionize timber measurement and improve measurement accuracy
Key activities for 2015/16 • OIML Activities: Electricity Meters TC 12 – R46 Measurement Canada is currently updating existing electricity meters approval certification • adapt R-46 requirements and investigate the impact of harmonies on measured values • TC-12 will determine how to address the issue of harmonies
Key activities for 2015/16Emerging Areas: • Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVC Stations): • approximately 3000 registered chargers in Canada with more installed every day • for EVA stations, Measurement Canada’s mandate is restricted to Metered Charging Time Based models
Key activities for 2015/16Emerging Areas: • LED and adaptive Controls in street lighting: • most cities in Canada are charged a flat rate for electricity used for street lights • many cities are installing LED lighting to reduce energy consumption • some of those LED street lights incorporate meters to measure actual consumption of electricity
Key activities for 2015/16Emerging Areas: • Compressed Natural Gas (CNG): • CNG dispensers used for refueling natural gas, passenger and larger vehicles • demand for faster fill times has led to requests for flow meters to be approved up to the maximum flow rate • Introduce challenges when using gravimetric method to assess performance • MC is looking at alternate test methods (eg. use of in series master meters) • environmental and safety concerns key drivers
