Tour Leader Training Module Two: Smokey Tours
Course Content: Smokey Tours • What is Smokey Tours? • Who are we? • What are we offering?
Smokey Tours Smokey Tours are not just tours. We offer experiences, believing that deep experience equals deep insight. Our tours are unique and honest; a testimony of changing times and our global interconnectedness.
Smokey Tours Mission • ST offers non-mainstream, out-of-the-box and sustainable tours in an inspiring and involved way. We would like to offer all of our guests (local and foreign) an enlightening experience, so that they may all be able to learn more about the place and people they visit, more than from a “normal” tour. We shall endeavor to turn tourists into travelers; where the Philippines and its people are represented in a positive and dignified way.
Smokey Tours Values • Teamwork • Honesty and Accountability • Professionalism • Taking Responsibility • Enthusiasm • Respect • Continuous Improvement • Customer Service • Conflict of Interest
Slum Tours • The slums are another world. A world which at first glance seems so different to what the majority of our visitors are used to. We see people working hard scavenging for recyclable goods or cleaning and recooking leftovers from garbage bins. We wander down the area, observing and see residents living in small spaces with poor sanitation, and with reduced poor access to water and electricity.
Bicycle Tours • A Dutch inspired tour and travel organization would be incomplete without a bicycle tour! Explore the city as it wakes up or experience the everyday life of Filipinos through the chaotic streets of Manila in the afternoon. Enjoy the smiles and curiosity of the kids in the poorer areas of Gotamco.
Cockfighting Tour • Cockfighting, a multi-million dollar industry in the country, is about honour. Roosters with a knife attached to one leg fight to the end like two gladiators. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the sport, “Sabong” is without doubt a huge part of Filipino culture. They say that some Filipinos pay more attention to their roosters than to their wives!
Market Tour • Walk through the market area of Old Manila to get a taste of a true Filipino culture. All kinds of merchandise from local medicinal herbs, birds, flowers, candles, statues, clothing, fruits to digital gadgets can be found here. The Quiapo church area is the place to take a peak at the daily life of every Filipino combined with the Golden Mosque in the small Muslim area. You’ll also get a taste of some local Filipino food in various areas.
Activity • Create a short spiel presenting Smokey Tours to the tourist.
