First - What is the Cloud ? • Any number of blogs / articles and definitions • Accessing information services and software over the internet as opposed to the same installed on servers based at your own site. You pay to use ‘on demand’ • Cloud offers cost / distribution savings. • Speed of deployment • There are generally currently 3 types of Cloud • Public, Private and Hybrid • Software-as-a-Service (SaaS); IaaS (Infrastructure as a service) • Public – email, office 365 etc., photo storage (Amazon). Generic software available to everyone. • Private – specific, business centric applications, combining IaaS and SaaS Why the cloud ?

What advantages does Cloud Offer? • No software to distribute and support • No IT overhead for Clients; saves hardware and support costs • URL; log in securely from anywhere you have Internet access • Don’t have to worry about purchasing software upgrades • Private Cloud Systems are fully secure • Password access, and SSL, an encrypted communication channel that renders all transactions between your browser and servers impenetrable Why the cloud ?
