Center for International Institutions Research (CIIR) G20 and BRICS contribution to the global sustainable development agenda • Establishing global agenda at the junction of both trade and development assistance. • Adopting documents, specifically aimed at the SDGs implementation. • Promoting global initiatives and partnerships, which might lead to reducing trade costs for enterprises from developing countries and LDCs. • Making and complying with commitments on aidfortrade, and agricultural trade. • Cooperating with specialized international institutions – WTO, UNCTAD, OECD, etc.
Center for International Institutions Research (CIIR) Target 2.b: Correct and prevent trade restrictions and distortions in world agricultural markets, including through the parallel elimination of all forms of agricultural export subsidies and all export measures with equivalent effect G20 members’ support measures to agricultural producers (billion USD) 2000-2016 Global agricultural export subsidies (million USD) 2000-2015
Center for International Institutions Research (CIIR) Target 10.а: Implement the principle of special and differential treatment for developing countries, in particular least developed countries Proportion of tariff lines applied to imports with zero-tariff, % (2005-2016) Share of developing countries’ exports facing the G20 members’ non-tariff measures, % average (2015)
Center for International Institutions Research (CIIR) Target 17.10: Promote a universal, rules-based, open, non-discriminatory and equitable multilateral trading system Weighted tariff-average (developed countries) 2005-2016 Weighted tariff-average(all G20 members) 2015-2017
Center for International Institutions Research (CIIR) Target 17.12: Realize timely implementation of duty-free and quota-free market access on a lasting basis for all least developed countries Average tariffs faced by developing countries and least developed countries, % (2015) Average G20 tariffs faced by least developed countries, % (2015)
Center for International Institutions Research (CIIR) Conclusions and Recommendations • Despite high compliance performance, there is a scope for improvement on key trade-related SDG indicators; • SDG indicators do not always comprehensively reflect development outcomes; • There is a need to study (and address) the full spectrum of development impact factors of all agenda elements; • Agenda 2030 and the SDGs implementation should be regarded as an underlying priority across all issue areas.
