  2. What is a Policy Brief • A concise summary of a particular issue, • The policy options to deal with it, and • Recommendations on the best option. BPF_Policy Briefs_CPS

  3. Audience • Government policymakers • Those who have the power and resources to formulate or influence policy • Those who are involved in or impacted by the issue BPF_Policy Briefs_CPS

  4. Purpose • Provide enough background for the reader to understand the problem. • Convince the reader that the problem must be addressed urgently • Provide information about alternatives (in an objective brief). • Provide evidence to support one alternative (in an advocacy brief). • Stimulate the reader to make a decision BPF_Policy Briefs_CPS

  5. Process • Conduct a situation analysis • Understand barriers and challenges • List strategies to address them • Understand the best practices that help address the problem BPF_Policy Briefs_CPS
