  2. Status • The current form of 16RCD is up for re-affirmation, and needs to be reaffirmed to keep it current.

Major Issues • The current 16RCD document includes numerous identical elements to API 16.  Streamlining the document is required to increase its usefulness and clarity while reducing unnecessary repetition and potential confusion. • Operational guidelines need to be developed for RCDs, as testing included in the 16RCD document are for manufacturing purposes and not specific operational use.  Industry has evolved to a point where 16RCD in its current form does not adequately address the uses demanded of them, whereby the verification testing required is in 'laboratory like' conditions (designs are tested  with water at room temperature - where actual use can be at elevated flowing surface temperatures and exotic oil hydrocarbon based fluids).

  4. Go forward Plan • Item 1.1 (streamlining and clarifying the document)has been completed by the group over the past year, and needs to be cleaned up by a technical writer for final review and vote by the TG. Item 1.2 (operational guidelines)is currently being worked, and end users of RCDs being canvassed to join the TG as they are the primary audience that would influence its content. Re-affirmation-has also been agreed upon in principle and needs to be 'formally' voted upon.
