Fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) products are a composite building materials class having fibrous reinforcement encased in a polymer matrix. The polymer matrix is used by FRP cable tray manufacturers as a liquid resin, which is cured to a solid with chemical reaction. The reinforcing materials are usually glass fibers, but they can be materials like carbon fibers or aramid. Manufacturers use several methods to produce FRP products. These include spray-up, hand lay- up, compression molding, and closed mold infusion. Majority of them use hand lay-up, closed- mold infusion, or spray-up method. Compression molding is widely used in high volume manufacturing units like automobile factories. Solid waste generated during the manufacturing methods is usually landfilled. But today, many manufacturers are interested in recycling their scrap. FRP scrap costs manufacturers in two ways- disposal costs and opportunity costs. Disposal costs are in the mainframe when the waste cost is mentioned. Such costs include transport and landfill fees. Most of the time neglected scrap cost is the opportunity cost of materials thrown away that might be used for producing a saleable product.
The opportunity to attain revenue is lost every time scrap goes in the trash. Many experts have started encouraging companies to deal with the waste. Since the waste education lowers both opportunity and disposal cost, it has a larger economic payback than recycling. However, the best FRP manufacturing technology available still creates a specific scrap amount. Solid waste formed during the FRP manufacturing is a matrix cured of FRP material and polymer resin. The chemical structure of the polymers that manufacturer’s use, and the filler and fiber of FRP scrap make the process of recycling more complex than usual thermoplastic recycling. The first issue with FRP scraps recycling is the thermoset resins usage. Such resins are liquids that cure to a solid via chemical reaction that crosslinks the resin molecules. The curing reaction used by experts is irreversible. FRP scrap is different from thermoplastics as it cannot be melted down and remolded, as experts perform in plastic recycling. Second complication is the FRP recycling filler and scrap fiber content. Fillers are used with FRP resins to lower the amount of resin needed to manufacture any part. This method reduces the styrene emissions and cost. FRP recycling system should be designed by FRP cable tray manufacturer to recover and reuse the filler and fiber content of the scrap. There are few more complications and you can read about them online. Share this post with your contacts and help them in reaching right cable tray suppliers.
