  2. By the end of this presentation, you will be able to: • Understand the services offered through the NWTC Career Services office • Navigate the Explore Careers website to look for jobs and find job search tips • Register for TechConnect and a Credential File

NWTC Career Services offers free career search assistance to all students and alumni. • Interest assessment tools • Resume and cover letter writing guidance • Interview coaching and practicing • Job Search Strategies including our on-line recruiting software – TechConnect • Career Fair Preparation • Business etiquette advice • Networking Skills

  4. A resume is your first chance to show an employer you are the best candidate. • Resumes can be submitted for review via email to careers@nwtc.edu or dropped off in the career center (SC235) • 1-2 week turnaround time for reviews • Individual appointments can also be made to review resumes. An employer will spend less than 30 seconds reviewing your resume before deciding “yes” or “no”

Mock Interviews are a great opportunity to become familiar with interview questions • The mock interview will consist of a 45 minute one-on-one appointment • The interview can be a generic interview or practice for a specific position Walk out the door with specific strategies to increase your interviewing confidence

In addition to resumes and mock interviews, Career Services has all the tools necessary to help you find a job. • Research companies/employers • Develop a networking plan • Review job search websites • Research salary information Expand your job search- Online job posting boards (including TechConnect) only show about 40% of open jobs in the market We can help…

  9. Wisconsin TechConnect is the online job posting system for the Wisconsin Technical College System Each time you log in, check for Announcementsand Upcoming events

All students enrolled in a program can easily register for Wisconsin TechConnect Use a personal email address rather than your NWTC account which deactivates after graduation. • Obtain a registration form online or from Career Services • Once you have filled out the registration form, you are enrolled in Wisconsin TechConnect Be sure to include the name of your program.

Career Services maintains a credential file allowing your faculty to write references. • You may have up to 3 references on file • Career Services maintains the file for 2 years • You fill out the front • The instructor will fill out the back and return to Career Services • Get a copy from us once it is entered

  12. Events calendar Workshops Networking | October 13,3-4pm Learn how to find “hidden jobs” by creating and expanding your network. Health Resumes | November 2, 3-4pm Employer led with a focus on resumes for the health industry. Trades Resumes | November 4, 3-4pm Employer led focusing on how to write a resume for the trades industry. Business Resumes | November 9, 3-4pm Employer led with a focus on resumes for the business world. Interviewing Skills | November 11, 3-4pm Learn the do’s and don’ts of interviewing, and get some practice. All Workshops will take place in room SC235 Job Fairs Be Your Own Boss | March 30th All Campus (Including Health) | April 6th Job Fairs will be held in the Cafeteria
