Situation • All maintained schools working to 2007 regulations have to re-constitute by September 2015 • Move from stakeholder to skills based model • Governing bodies should be proactive • Review their size – does it meet your needs • Eliminate hard to fill or long standing vacancies • Review your GB’s skills set • Think about actively recruiting to fill gaps • May need to put people into different categories
Rules • At least 2 elected parent governors • Headteacher • Only 1 elected staff • Only 1 LA • You decide how many co-opted • Limit of 1/3 staff on GB • F – at least 2 partnership • VC – at least 2 foundation • VA – foundation governors out number by 2
Action You need to plan When you are going to reconstitute Have a small group to work on a proposal Check with SGT that proposal complies Do not fill governorships you may want to reduce Church schools need to consult Diocese Number of foundation governors and ethos A named agenda item Have decision fully minuted Send copy of minutes to School Governance Team We will make your Instrument of Government (IoG) Your new IoG will start beginning next term 4
