An Analysis of Online College Courses. Lindsey Miller March 5, 2009. I took two college Internet courses through a community college in high school. Together, they transferred six credit hours here. I was able to get ahead of schedule by completing two basic studies requirements.

I took two college Internet courses through a community college in high school. • Together, they transferred six credit hours here. • I was able to get ahead of schedule by completing two basic studies requirements. • The two courses also allowed me to have a very flexible schedule during my senior year. My Personal Experience

Compared to traditional college courses: • Less expensive • Less time consuming • More independent • Related to college in general, a student can: • Take more traditional classes while taking an online course: it lightens the workload • Get a head start by completing some hours in high school or more than 15 per semester • Work and maintain a job while still completing college • Allow parents to be at home with their families • Economic Advantages: • Saves paper • Makes good use of technological advances The pro’s

Lack of relationship between teachers and students: • People who do not work well independently would not like this. • People who do not keep up with important dates and deadlines would receive no steady reminders. • Huge need for time management skills: • As we all know, many people are not efficient in time management. • Some students see online courses as an opportunity to slack off and not put as much effort into the class. The con’s

The availability of online college courses is growing rapidly. • Most major universities offer a way for students to complete classes online, such as Blackboard from UNCW. • When driving down a highway, I see many billboards which advertise online courses, aiming towards working adults with families. • With our economy the way it is today, I expect to see a large growth in the number of students taking advantage of online classes. • Saves them time, money, and gas. • Allows them to advance in their careers. • Provides them with a greater sense of job security.   6. I feel that online college courses benefit almost anyone who takes them. They have helped me in many ways and I plan to take more of them while at UNCW.
