  2. John’s Purpose In Writing This LetterMy purpose in writing is simply this: that you who believe in God's Son will know beyond the shadow of a doubt that you have eternal life, the reality and not the illusion. (5:13 MSG) Taking 1 John Verse by Verse

  3. 1 John 5:18-21 HCSB (v.18) We know that everyone who has been born of God does not sin, but the One who is born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him. (v.19) We know that we are of God, and the whole world is under the sway of the evil one. (v.20) And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know the true One. We are in the true One--that is, in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. (v.21) Little children, guard yourselves from idols.

  4. 1 John 5:18-21 MSG We know that none of the God-begotten makes a practice of sin--fatal sin. The God-begotten are also the God-protected.The Evil One can't lay a hand on them. (1Jn 5:19) We know that we are held firm by God; it's only the people of the world who continue in the grip of the Evil One. (1Jn 5:20) And we know that the Son of God came so we could recognize and understand the truth of God--what a gift!--and we are living in the Truth itself, in God's Son, Jesus Christ. This Jesus is both True God and Real Life. (1Jn 5:21) Dear children, be on guard against all clever facsimiles.

MSG John 5:24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. 1John 3:14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. 2Thess 3:3 But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.

  7. (v.20) And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know the true One. We are in the true One--that is, in His Son Jesus Christ. This Jesus is both True God and Real Life. MSG Philippians 3:8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ

  8. (v.21) Little children, guard yourselves from idols. (v.21) Dear children, be on guard against all clever facsimiles. So too we need to flee from the idols of our age. Be on YOUR guard against… …whatever takes our worship from God is an idol. …whatever steals our affections from our God and Savior. Be tearing down idols within yourheart and within the Body of Christ!
