  2. UNITY AMONG GOD’S PEOPLE • Christ is the head of the body which is the church. Col. 1:18 • That means that Christ is over the church and His word directs what the church is to be and how it is to function.

  3. “BEHOLD HOW GOOD AND HOW PLEASANT IT IS FOR BRETHREN TO DWELL TOGETHER IN UNITY” Psa. 133:1 • We all like peace and unity. • The Lord’s church was an island of peace in a world of turmoil. • Jesus, just before His death prayed before His apostles, so they could hear.John 17:20-21

  4. “BEHOLD HOW GOOD AND HOW PLEASANT IT IS FOR BRETHREN TO DWELL TOGETHER IN UNITY” Psa. 133:1 • He prayed for us, that we would be “one”. • Sometimes we have forgotten that we cannot walk with God while kicking His children. • Jesus said “one”. John 17:21 … that they all may be one…

  5. Eph 4:1-7 • A call from the apostle Paul for there to harmony among God’s people. • Look at verse 1.

  6. #1 – “WE MUST ACKNOWLEDGE THE COMMAND” • Unity is not optional equipment. • It is a command !!!!!! • It was in the O.T. Prov. 6:16

  7. #1 – “WE MUST ACKNOWLEDGE THE COMMAND” • It is a command in the N.T. Rom 12:18; 14:19; 1 Thes. 5:13; Heb 12:14 • Eph 4:3 “endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace”

  8. #2 – “WE MUST ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE” • It is hard work. • Eph 4:3 “endeavoring” • Diligence = hasten, exert one’s self • It is a challenge !!!! • 275-280 people. • Patience - love – effort – work.

  9. #2 – “WE MUST ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE” • It takes tremendous effort !!!! • We need to get rid of things like slander,gossip,malice,ill will and lying. • Or we will not go to heaven !!!!!

  10. PAUL SAYS THAT WE MUST…. • #1. ACKNOWLEDGE THE COMMAND • #2. ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE • AND…………….

  11. #3. “WE MUST ADOPT THE CHARACTER” • It will only be, because certain character traits have become a part of who we are. • Ephesians 4 Verses 1 & 3 1 - “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 3 - endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

  12. #3. “WE MUST ADOPT THE CHARACTER” • But in between those two verses, there is verse 2 • Eph 4:2 “with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,” • Here he gives us traits of character that must be adopted if we are ever going to have harmony

  13. #3. “WE MUST ADOPT THE CHARACTER” • Eph 4:2 “With all lowliness…. • Rom 12:3; Phil 2:3 • Think about all the trouble and all the turmoil that sometimes has plagued the people of God. • Our physical families.

  14. #3. “WE MUST ADOPT THE CHARACTER” • Eph 4:2 “With all lowlinessand gentleness” • The opportunity for unity and harmony is helped when our spirit is kind. • I am convinced because of His gentleness in character that Jesus appealed to many people.

  15. #3. “WE MUST ADOPT THE CHARACTER” • Eph 4:2 “With all lowlinessandgentleness, with longsuffering … • Longsuffering leads to forgiveness. • Matt 18:21-22 • Peter how often do you want God to forgive you?

  16. #3. “WE MUST ADOPT THE CHARACTER” • Eph 4:2 “With all lowlinessandgentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love.” • Bearing with one another is “hard” • John 13:1 • He loved them to the end.

  17. UNITY AMONG GOD’S PEOPLE • LET US READ Eph. 4:1-3 ONE MORE TIME. • JESUS WANTS UNITY AMONG CHRISTIANS. • IT IS UP TO YOU AND ME TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.
