  2. Policy context • Policy imperatives on climate change and energy • Convergence on the important contribution of wind power • Markedly different levels of ‘success’ in promoting wind power between EU states

  3. Aim • To draw upon different national and theoretical perspectives to critically assess the deployment of wind power across EU member states • Particular focus on: • Denmark, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden & the UK

  4. Questions for the stream • Which policy tools have been most effective in promoting wind power? • How important have financial tools been compared to planning and regulatory tools? • To what extent has community ownership of wind farms assisted in delivery? • In what political, social and economic circumstances have particular policy approaches been (un)successful? • What future prospects for the deployment of wind power in Europe?

  5. Structuring the session • Encouraging focused, international, comparative study • Bringing together a range of methodological and theoretical perspectives • Connections to the conference theme of stakeholder integration and participation

  6. Final Session/Outputs • Update on the Helsinki book proposal • Wind Power and Power Politics (Routledge) • Special issue of the Journal European Environment has been commissioned to publish the best papers • Special thanks to Professor Andy Gouldson, SRI, University of Leeds • Stream participants are encouraged to submit their full papers following the conference
