Teacher Planning and Management Background & Planning: Longniddry Primary School have a school wide, week long Anti-Bullying week. See the document below for more detail on planning and management. Storyboarding, filming, costumes and props were all devised and carried out by the children. The school was used as the set/location. The groups were given free choice of where to film - within the school grounds. Different groups chose to use the school as a film set in quite creative and interestingly different ways. Documents
Teaching Resources Ewan McIntosh, on secondment to East Lothian Council from LTScotland, provided expert guidance to the pupils at the early stages, advising on filming generally; how to plan a piece of film with storyboarding, how to use the digital cameras and take different types of shot; and how to edit using I-movie. Cameras were borrowed for one week from Prestonpans Resource Centre. During this, both teachers supported the pupils in their efforts to film and edit their movies.
Assessment and Standards This project was assessed in a number of areas. The groups were assessed on the shared success criteria as follows. 1. To ensure that the film gave a clear message to others about the role of the bystander in helping to solve ‘Bullying situations’. 2. To ensure that their film gave others (viewers) a way to deal with a ‘Bullying situation’ e.g. tell a friend, the teacher etc. (NOTE TO OTHERS TRYING THIS - ENSURE THE CHILDREN DO NOT GLAMOURISE THE BULLY IN THEIR FILMS) 2. PSD - teachers observed the children working in a group and suggested useful strategies for those not participating fully to become further involved. Notes were taken on the ability of the children to work in a group 3. ICT - the videos were assessed by level of support required during editing and quality of outcome. Documents
Teacher and School Information The films were made at Longniddry Primary School with two P7 classes working together. Both teachers would advise team teaching on this as it can become quite intense when editing. Teachers initiating this project were Miss Amanda Hutcheson and Miss Mellony Bertram. We also thank Euan MacIntosh for his support in the early stages. Longniddry Primary, Kitchener Crescent, LONGNIDDRY, East Lothian, EH32 OLR Tel: 01875 853161
