Andy Walton’s Weekly World Watch September 10 - 16 2006 “If the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood.” Ezekiel 33:6
What is this world watch all about? I decided each week to look at key events that had happened in that week and look at them with the Bible in hand. I hope to build up a picture of Gods hand working in the affairs of this world bringing about that day when all nations will be gathered to Jerusalem to battle which will be brought to end when the Lord Jesus Christ physically returns from heaven to set up Gods kingdom. The key areas which will crop up time and again will be • Israel – Middle East the growing conflict • Europe – the developing union / political and religious • Russia – continued turning back to anti west ways • The development of King of South – US & UK • Declining moral standards and increasing violence. Please email me with any thoughts, questions or anything I may have missed! On last page there is a red button – if you click it an email will open up pre addressed to me so you can send an email comments etc
Weekly Developments These are just a few of the events that have caught my eye in the previous week. It is in no way meant to be exhaustive – just a look at those events I saw as significant from a Bible viewpoint. Headlines These are always headlines printed in the newspaper – the date is always given and which paper. Normally the Daily Telegraph. (DT) Event This is usually the newspapers take on the events that have happened. It will always be a direct quote from the newspaper. Comment This is my take on why it is interesting from a Bible point of view. The idea of this weekly world watch is to give a quick Biblical perspective without going into detail. If more detail is needed please email me. Bible Quote This is normally one verse which backs up why the event that has occurred is interesting from a Biblical perspective. Please read in its context.

Tony Blair’s visit to Israel Headline Blair arrives in Israel for talks Headline Press Association September 10 Event On Saturday night Mr Blair met Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert for talks at his official residence, where he was hailed as a staunch ally. Mr Olmert was at pains to portray Mr Blair as "a true and profound friend of the state of Israel and a dedicated friend of the Middle East". Mr Olmert also pointedly denied that the importance of Mr Blair's visit had been diminished by the continuing rows over his leadership at home. Mr Blair, still dogged by questions over his leadership, vowed to press on with his peace mission, saying: "I'm one of those people who believe if you have a problem you consider as fundamental and important as it is in this region, then whatever the difficulty, you should at least try." Comment Britain, and therefore currently Tony Blair as its political leader, is part of the King of the South mentioned in Daniel 11. In Ezekiel 38 Britain is referred to as Tarshish. Britain we believe will side with Israel in the final conflict. We see here the Prime Minister of Israel calling Tony Blair a profound and dedicated friend to Israel. You may also note the comment about Mr Blair’s political problems back in the UK. He is under very serious pressure to step down as Prime Minister within the next 9 months. This is leaving him in a very politically weak position – Tarshish appears weak in Ezekiel 38 when Russia and other nations attack Israel. Note how Tarshish is left only asking questions to the armies invading Israel… Bible Quote Ezekiel 38 13 Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil?
Tony Blair’s visit to Lebanon Headline Blair faces hatred on Beirut streets and snub from key politician - Headline Daily Telegraph September 12 Event Tony Blair faced street protests and a diplomatic snub in Beirut yesterday as he became the first serving British prime minister to visit Lebanon. Flying into the city's international airport so recently put out of action by Israeli bombs, Mr Blair was branded "the biggest criminal and lackey of the US" by angry demonstrators. The Prime Minister, who flew in from Tel Aviv on the final leg of his three-day Middle East peace mission, outraged Arab opinion during the recent conflict between Israel and the Islamic militants of Hizbollah by failing to call for an immediate ceasefire. Heavily-armed troops lined the streets as the convoy carrying Mr Blair and the Lebanese premier, Fouad Siniora, swept towards the city centre. Armoured cars, razor wire and troops formed a tight security cordon around the Lebanese government buildings in which Mr Blair & Mr Siniora held their press conference. Comment As the current King of the South moved into the territory of the King of the North the difference in welcome was plain for all to see. Instead of friendship and praise, there was anger, hatred and snubs. Hamas also snubbed Mr Blair when they rejected his conditions for any future talks with the militant group. The following day came the attack on the US embassy in Syria. Military analysts believe it was carried out by a mixed Syrian, Palestinian, Lebanese assault team. The US is of course one of the “young lions” of Britain mentioned as well in Ezekiel 38. The hatred in this area of both English speaking nations is very great at this time. Bible Quote Daniel 11 40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind,
EU sees Palestinian opportunity Headline EU sees Palestinian 'opportunity' Headline BBConline September 15 Event The EU's Finnish presidency has called on member countries to welcome the creation of a new Palestinian national unity government. Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja said the move could provide an opportunity to return to the Middle East peace process. EU foreign ministers are meeting to discuss the aid embargo imposed after Hamas won parliamentary elections. Washington has been insisting the aid freeze should remain in place. Comment Ever since Hamas swept into power in the elections last January, the new Palestinian government has faced a growing economic boycott from Israel and key international players like the European Union and the United States. Under this severe pressure Hamas has agreed this week to create a unity government. Hamas does not want to explicitly recognise Israel however, and this was one of the demands by the international community. What is interesting now, is that Europe appears to be welcoming the creation of this Palestinian national unity government and are now discussing the possibility of releasing EU money to them. America continues to insist the money freeze stays in place. The BBC reported it like this “Correspondents say these are signs of a growing rift between the US and the European Union over the issue.” This rift will continue to grow. It will eventually bring the US and Europe into conflict. Bible Quote Isaiah 34 2 For the indignation of the LORD is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter. God is gathering the nations to battle over Israel
Al-Qaeda -‘Israel to be next target’ Headline Al-Zawahri: Gulf, Israel Next Targets Headline ABCnews September 11 Event Osama bin Laden's deputy warned that the Persian Gulf and Israel would be al-Qaida's next targets in portions of a new videotape aired by Arab broadcaster Al-Jazeera on Monday, the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Ayman al-Zawahri also accused the governments of Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia of supporting Israel's war against Hezbollah in Lebanon. Addressing the West, the al-Qaida No. 2 said, "You should not waste your time in reinforcing your troops in Iraq and Afghanistan because their fate is doomed … Instead, you have to reinforce your troops in two regions. First is the Gulf, where you would be thrown out … and second is Israel." Comment More threats from Al-Qaeda. In Zahahiri’s first tape, he warns Western leaders they will soon be evicted from the Gulf and face economic doom. As for Israel, he said, al Qaeda’s “holy war” is closing in and “your end will put an end to Zionist-crusader supremacy.” He added cryptically: “New events” are on the way. Those who have analysed this speech believe that…. 1. Al Qaeda is in mid-preparation of a grand new terror offensive against the emirates to strike Western interests and stop “the theft of Muslim oil” by western countries and 2. Al Qaeda is in the same advanced stage of preparing mega-attacks on Israel. Note as well the singling out of Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. These pro US countries. Saudi Arabia equates to Sheba and Dedan in Ezekiel 38. Note how this area is linked with the merchants of Tarshish. i.e. Britain, USA, Australia etc. Bible Quote Ezekiel 38 13 Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish,
Russian engineers sent to Lebanon Headline Russian Engineers Dispatched to Lebanon Headline Associated Press September 11 Event President Vladimir Putin on Monday gave final orders for a battalion of Russian engineers and explosives experts to travel to Lebanon to help repair the damage inflicted by Israel's campaign to uproot Hezbollah guerrillas. In comments shown on state-run television, Putin instructed aides to prepare the necessary paperwork for Russia's upper house of parliament to authorize the deployment, which will be separate from the U.N. peacekeeping mission. Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov said an advance team would travel to Lebanon this week and the full group could be in place by month's end. It was unclear how many members the team would contain but Ivanov said they would include experts at disarming unexploded ordnance, as well as engineers to evaluate the damage inflicted on Lebanese roads and bridges. He said the team will work outside of the area where U.N.-authorized peacekeepers are operating. Comment So now Russia has decided to enter Lebanon!! We now have France, Italy and Spain with 1000’s of troops arriving. Russia is sending “engineers” and “explosives experts” as well. Israel’s enemies are arriving on it’s northern border. The gathering of the nations continues. Notice that the Russians say they they will work “outside” the UN area. They will be separate. In other words the UN will not be able to tell Russia what it can and cannot do when it is there. The verse below is speaking of Russia. Bible Quote Ezekiel 38 4 And I [God] will turn thee [Russia] back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields,…
Political fallout from Pope’s speech Headline Political fallout from Pope’s speech Headline Daily Telegraph September 16 Event The Vatican expressed fears for the safety of the Pope last night after Muslim clerics across the world denounced him for citing an obscure medieval text that called the Prophet Mohammed's contribution to religion "evil and inhuman". Protesters took to the streets in a series of countries with large Muslim populations, including India and Iraq. The ruling party in Turkey likened Pope Benedict XVI to Hitler and Mussolini and accused him of reviving the mentality of the Crusades. In Kashmir, an effigy of the pontiff was burnt. In the wake of the Israeli-Hezbollah conflict in Lebanon, surrounding Arab regimes came under intense pressure as they battled between supporting Hezbollah against the Jewish state and taking a public stand against Shiite power in the region. A controversy fuelling anger toward the West would be a welcome distraction in many of these police states. Syria will also likely seize the opportunity to foment such protests in a bid to consolidate the regime's position. Iran, meanwhile, is in the midst of an aggressive geopolitical push to establish itself as the kingmaker of the region. Playing up the pope protests will assist Tehran in trying to overcome the Sunni-Shiite divide and unify Muslims in their opposition to the West. Comment What the Pope might have started here we wait to see. The Middle East is on the brink of war over Jerusalem. Though he may apologise - he may possibly spark it off…. Bible Quote Joel 3 9 ¶ Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up; Prepare war = HOLY WAR!
