  1. Check for Understanding Song(Tune: Hokey Pokey) You have a great new book and you’ve started to read You know a lot of words but there’s something else you need. You must check for understanding and ask “Who?” and also “What?” that’s what reading’s all about!

  2. Back Up and Reread Song(Tune: B-I-N-G-O) I read a bit and now I found I really just don’t get it. Now what should I do? Now what should I do? Now what should I do? I’ll back up and reread it!

  3. Cross-Checking Song(Tune: Do Your Ears Hang Low) I am stuck on a word but I know just what to do I will look at the letters and then at the picture, too. Does the word that I think it is make a lot of sense? This is called cross-check!

  4. Tune into Interesting Words(Tune: Zip-a-dee-doo-dah) Words are so fun and words are so cool. They’re in books at my home and my school. I’ll find new ones and use them When I speak and I write Learning new words is such a delight!

  5. Monitor and Fix-up Song(Tune: Adam’s Family) I think I’m confused. That didn’t make sense. But I know what to do I’ll fix it right up, I’ll fix it right up! When I monitor my reading I’m always, always thinking And if it doesn’t make sense, A strategy I’ll use I’ll fix it right up!

  6. Voracious Reading Song(Tune: Baby Bumblebee) I’m reading lots of books Just-right for me. That’ll help improve my reading fluency I’m reading lots of books just-right for me… that’s called voraciously!
