  2. Imtiaz Dharker • Born in Pakistan 1954 • Has lived in UK since 1955 • The main themes of her poetry include home, freedom, journeys, geographical and cultural displacement, communal conflict and gender politics.

The Story of the poem • A speaker describes an unknown individual who is outside their house. • The individual appears young – the speaker has trouble identify who this person is, only describing them as a ‘child’ that is ‘lost’. • The speaker invites the person in to their home to eat at the family meal.

  4. The poem makes us think about… • Identity as a young person – being influenced. • Isolation – being lonely and looking for an identity. • Being a ‘friend’ – welcoming those who are lost.
