  2. SUMMARY Jessica is a 16 year old girl who was a runner. She tragically lost her right leg in an accident. Jessica is trying to get a prosthetic leg so she can walk again. Jessica’s school track team is trying to raise two thousand dollars to buy Jessica a running leg so she can continue to live her dream, run.

  3. LITERARY DEVICE The Running Dream is told in Jessica’s point of view. Since the incident happened to Jessica, Jessica is able to tell the story the way it happened to her. Because Jessica tells the story herself, the story is easier to understand, especially since she knows how it feels and she knows the story better then anyone else. If someone else told the story about Jessica it would be hard for us to know what she felt or what she was thinking about. The flashbacks that Jessica had told us what she remembers and how she felt when these things happened.

  4. TEXT STRUCTURE The author Wendelm van Draanen, wrote this story to tell Jessica's story in her point of view. Because Jessica is the one who experienced the incident, the author probably thought that Jessica telling the story herself could tell the story the best.

  5. TEXT PURPOSE I think the author wrote this story to let all of the readers know not to take anything for granted. This story also tells us how Jessica got through her fear about not being able to run again.

  7. PLOT Exposition- Characters: Jessica, Fionna, Kyro, Rosa, Gavin, Hank, Mom, Dad. Setting- The setting is put in Jessica’s life, in 2007 Problem- Jessica gets into a terrible accident that causes her to lose her right leg, and a girl named Lucy to loses her life.

  8. RISING ACTION Jessica is on her way back from a district track meet, when a drunk driver hits their school bus.

  9. CLIMAX Jessica is in the hospital and has to get her right leg taken off. The surgeons are not able to fix her leg because of how badly Jessica was injured.

  10. FALLING ACTION Jessica has gotten her new prosthetic leg and is starting to walk again. Jessica’s parent are still trying to pay off the insurance.

  11. THEME Don’t let a one thing bring you down and not be able to reach your goals. Pg. #3: My life is over. Pg. #3: A reality I cant face. Pg. #5 What does it matter? Ill never run again.

CHARACTERS JESSICA • Scared: Jessica was scared that she wont be able to walk again. • Funny: Jessica tries to be funny to make up for all the embarrassing things she did. • Kind: she is very kind to Rosa and tries to make Rosa’s dream come true. Fionna • Outgoing: fionna is a very outgoing person, and is always trying to get Jessica out of the house. • Helpful: Fionna always offers to help Jessica with whatever she needs. • Friendly: Fionna is very friendly to everyone she meets especially Mario.

  13. SYMBOLISM Jessica has gotten a prosthetic leg so she is able to run again.

  14. THE RUNNING DREAM I recommend this book to all people who like reading books. This book is a good heart warming story, and keeps you interested until the very end.
