Introduction • LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles Lakers introduced new head coach Mike D’Antoni at a news conference on Thursday afternoon. • Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak introduced D’Antoni after the team’s practice in El Segundo. • D’Antoni was hired by the Lakers organization late Sunday night over former skipper and 11-time NBA championship winner, Phil Jackson. • Laker great Magic Johnson spoke his mind Wednesday on ESPN on the hiring of D’Antoni after staying quiet for several days. • Magic believes the Lakers should have listened to fans and Jackson. • “The reason I haven’t tweeted in 2 days is because I’ve been mourning Phil Jackson not being hired as the Lakers head coach,” Johnson tweeted Wednesday. “My mother always taught me that if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” • He claims the Lakers have made “two critical mistakes” that Jim Buss is responsible for. • “First, hiring Mike Brown. He wasn’t the right coach. He’s a great coach but not the right coach for the Lakers,” Magic said on NBA Countdown. “And I don’t feel Mike D’Antoni is the right coach for the Lakers now, especially when you have Phil Jackson sitting out there who wanted to be the Laker coach.”

THIS IS THE TIME LAKERSTIEBRAKER • This time around, the Lakers, who lost the tiebreaker to the Jazz by dropping two of three in their season series, host three Western Conference playoff teams: the Golden State Warriors on Friday, San Antonio Spurs on Sunday and Houston Rockets on Wednesday. That stretch won't be easy. Durant averaged 34.8 points in those four games while guard Russell Westbrook averaged 28.5 points, nine assists and 6.8 rebounds. • Still, as the playoffs have grown near, Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard have both raised their games. Bryant is averaging a near triple-double in April with 29.8 points, 8.2 assists and 7.4 rebounds. • "He has that fountain of youth," Durant said. "You can only wish to be that good at 34 [years old] and 17 years in the NBA. He is an inspiration to everybody and playing so well. I'm sure he is going to try to keep it up and will those guys to the playoffs."
