  2. Description English Paper Piecing To prepare the fabric, cut the shapes including a 3/8Ë? seam allowance, using templates. Next, use a paper template the exact size of the finished hexagon Place 2 hexagons right sides together, with flat edges aligned. Keep the paper inside the fabric shape until you have joined other pieces to all of its sides. Go Slowly! Now, at last, I have fallen in love with the slower methods of applique and English paper piecing as a way of using my hands while my mind sifts through the events of the day or when gathered. Portable, quiet, and full of rewarding surprises, hand piecing has become a favorite method. I still enjoy making a quilt in a weekend, but discovering the slower methods has revealed a more thoughtful side of life. Hardly a day goes by without the needle and thread in my had working on projects that develop slowly over time and like a deep breath keep me in the present - looking forward.
