Post 9/11 • Parts of Thin Thread were being used few weeks after 9/11. • Now Thin Thread was being used without the protections. • Called Stellar Wind. • AT&T gave over 300 million records of communication to the NSA. • William Binney quit, believing the government to be unconstitutional.
How this is all being done? • In the process of building $2 billion data facility in Bluffdale, Utah • Binney says, “Capacity to store 100 years of the worlds communications.” • Expected to be running in 2013
Government’s Stance • Word play in how they define their actions. • Says not violating your constitutional rights. • Just store information, not using it. • Intercept doen’t take place until its listen to.
Why this should be a concern? • Its just stored information UNLESS you become a problem. • The intentions of it doesn’t make it right.
Take Away • Even Though as an average American citizen its almost impossible to influence the decisions that are made in the government, but as long as the majority of citizens are more informed through media on such important topics so America are not kept in the dark about government decisions.
