Goals: • To improve Siquijor as a unique sun-and-beach resort destination while highlighting its mystic-healing niche, thereby increasing investments in order to create more jobs for the local people and increase revenues. • * Rise in visitor arrivals from an average growth rate of 10% to 50% yearly • * Increase in the number of tourism facilities and enterprises • * More jobs generated for the local people in tourism enterprises, production, & services of the island
Project Description • The tourism circuit development LED initiative positions Siquijor as a unique yet complimentary eco-cultural destination to Negros Oriental, and particularly to air gateway of Dumaguete City. The key Objectives of the proposed project are to: • Develop the natural heritage of Siquijor into a competitive tourism circuit with new and improved visitor activities that attract more tourists and encourage them to stay longer • Build capacities of tourism stakeholders and local communities to benefit from as well as contribute to the sustainable development and management of tourism in the Province.
Expected results: • Increase in visitor arrivals • Increase in income of LGU’s • Improved tourism products & services • Improved economic activities
Key Beneficiaries • 6 municipalities (Larena, Siquijor, San Juan, Lazi, Maria, and Enrique Villanueva) • 78 transport service operators (all male) • 74 resorts/restaurants/travel agencies/accommodation establishments: 33 males- 41 females • 31 masseurs/masseuse; 2 males- 29 females • 101 healers and herbalists; 81 male- 20 female • 39 community-based tour guides; 12 males- 27 females • 99 sectors representing the Tourism Council • 42 homestay owners; 11 males- 31 females
Major activities and Deliverables • Build the capacities of the tourism stakeholder and empower the local communities • Develop products and services that will satisfy visitor needs and position Siquijor as a globally competitive eco-tourism destination • Develop a Sustainable Environmental Management System • Improve infrastructure, tourism facilities and attraction sites • Develop new adventure and product services • Develop tourism circuit map
