The present continuous = to be + ing Examples: I am studying for the exams now. As we can see, the action “am studying” is in progress; it is happening NOW! This is the general use of the present continuous. However, we can use it to express future time as well.
Take a look at the following sentence: I am serving roast beef for dinner tonight. What tense is the verb in the sentence above? Right! In the present continuous! We can use the present continuous tense to express future time! Extra!
Now look at some other examples: We are going to a drive-thru later for lunch. I’m not working tomorrow because I took the day off. Extra! It’s common to use time words (for lunch; tomorrow) with the present continuous to emphasize the future.
Now you should complete the dialogues using the present continuous tense. Just follow the example: Where are you and Sue going to tonight? (Going to the theater) We’re going to the theater tonight. • What time are your friends coming over? • (at 8 tonight) My friends are coming over at 8 tonight.
