What was UniServe Science? • One of five UniServe Clearinghouses • Established 1995 • Based at The University of Sydney • Promote the use of computer software in Science teaching at tertiary level nationally • Covered all sciences including psychology, biochemistry, geography • Conferences, publications and web site • Academics not students
What is UniServe Science? • Fully funded by The University of Sydney • Evolved to cover all aspects of ICT in science teaching and research into science teaching at tertiary level nationally, • Now includes computer science, mathematics and statistics • Widened our client base to include teachers of science in Stages 1 – 6 in NSW • Increasing role within The University of Sydney
Curriculum Resources for NSW Syllabuses • K-6 • Stages 4 & 5 • Stage 6 • Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Earth and Environmental Science and Senior Science • Geography • Food Technology (in infancy)
Students learn to: 4/5.15 b) use independently a range of data collection strategies and technologies such as data loggers 4/5.16 a) use a range of sources, including databases, CD-ROMs and the internet, to access information 4/5.17 d) organise data using a variety of methods including diagrams, tables, spreadsheets and databases 4/5.17 g) apply mathematical concepts and computer based technologies to assist analysis of data and information 4/5.18 e) use drawings, diagrams, graphs, tables, databases, spreadsheets and flow charts to show relationships and present information clearly and/or succinctly Mandatory Computer Skills Science
