People: Different and Equal
We are learning to: • To understand how all people are different and equal. • To recognise and appreciate diversity and equality. • To accept people for who they are.
What I’m looking for: • Respect for each other as a class. • Everyone getting involved, as there are no right or wrong answers today. • Only sharing what you are willing to share.
Continuum Line Where on the line would you stand? You can stand somewhere in the middle: there is no right and wrong. Be prepared to give reasons for your choices.
People Equal: James Berry and Christopher Corr Some people shoot up tall. Some hardly leave the ground at all Yet people equal. Equal. One voice is a non-sugar tomato Another is sweet mango. Yet people equal. Equal. Some people rush to the front. Other people feel they can’t. Yet people equal. Equal.
Blow hard on some people they fall. Hammer others you meet a wall. Yet people equal. Equal. One person will sit on a star. Others never get that far. Yet people equal. Equal. Some people never take off with their show Others are always on the go. Yet people equal. Equal.
In pairs Can you write down on the paper in front of you as many different personality types as you can think of? Add the different ways people do things/act.
Still in your pairs • Pick two personalities/actions that are opposite and see if you can write a verse/statement in the style of the poem. • Think of more statements and verses. • How can you present your ideas and work?
And finally • Is there anyone willing to feed back their ideas to the rest of the class? • Is anyone willing to say what they have learnt from this session? • What do we mean by the term “equal” when we are talking about people?
