The Spanish Cooperative Network of Defence Libraries (CNDL): Milestones: Act 1551/2004 of June 25, 2004, enables the Ministry of Defence of Spain to organise and coordinate its own libraries. To update all the regulations about libraries in the Ministry of Defence. To promote and facilitate the knowledge and dissemination of the bibliographic and documentary heritage of the Ministry of Defence for everybody who needs it. Establishment of the Library Coordination Unit (LCU) in September 2005.
The Library Coordination Unit mission: It is responsible for all the libraries of the Ministry of Defence. It is in charge of carrying out the progressive and balanced development of the CNDL. It promotes co-operation and collaboration with other public organisms and private entities.
Library Coordination Unit objectives: To identify. Coordinate. Evaluate the libraries of CNDL. To create the norms for processing of the collection of the library.
Law of Libraries of the Ministry of Defence: Orden DEF/92/2008 of January 23, 2008. Discussion task force including people from several departments. Main goal: to create the legal framework for the proper functioning of the CNDL.
Goals of the Cooperative Network of Defence Libraries: To promote and facilitate the conservation, access and promotion of the Bibliographic Heritage of the Ministry of Defence. To upgrade the use of libraries in all departments of the Ministry of Defence. To support the need for updating and training of librarians. To assure the best use of libraries and documentary means by co-operation and co-ordination and their actions. To facilitate the exchange of experiences and communication between libraries. To represent the interests of the libraries of the Ministry of Defence.
