2. Thomas Sullivan invented tea bags, although, he did not realize it at the time.

3. #1. Sullivan, an American coffee and tea merchant, often sent samples of his products to his buyers. The examples were crammed in cans. One day in 1904, Sullivan decided that it would be simpler and less expensive to send the tea samples in small, hand-sewn silk bags. Soon the orders came pouring in, but surprisingly they were not for the tea. The orders were for tea packagedin little bags. The customers had discovered that the small pouches made tea brewing easier.

4. #2. In 1904, there was a woman named Abigail Sloan Sullivan. Her family was famous for there successful tea brewing business. One day, Abigail had just picked up a fresh package of tea. Their restaurant was packed and Abigail’s husband James had been sick all week. She had to fulfill all of the many orders on her own. She had a lot on her mind. In fact, she was so frustrated she accidentally started to brew the new tea in the silk bags they were in. Right before she served the tea she realized the horrible thing she had done. Hoping nobody would notice she gave the tea just how it was. At the end of the day ,while Abigail was cleaning Mr. Francis P. Kelso came up to her. She had thought that he was coming to insult her on today’s tea. It turned out he had come to buy 12 pounds of it. Every day after that Abigail brewed her tea in the bags they were in. Business was booming until 1942 when Abigail died of liver cancer. 96 years old. Surprisingly, the shop was kept open in her honor. You can still visit the small restaurant today.
