  2. Who? • CERN-European Center for Nuclear Research • Often called “The birthplace of the Internet” • Trying to recreate what they call the “Big Bang” • Has been in construction for the past seven years

  3. What? • The Grid • New internet that is 10,000 times faster than modern broadband connections • Can potentially offer HD video telephony • Can potentially offer holographic images • Able to download full feature films in seconds

  4. How? • Built atop completely fiber optic networks • Utilizes modern routing centers • Over 50,000 servers • Will keep traffic out of current phone and data systems

  5. When? • “Red Button Day” • Switching on of the Large Hadron Collider • Which is the new particle accelerator built to probe the universe. • This summer for certain researchers

  6. Why? • Current use will be to track down nature’s elusive particle, the Higgs boson. • Which is what gives matter mass • Eventually will replace the current Internet for mainstream public across the world. • Currently telecom providers are introducing this technology, which creates a dedicated channel for internet users trying to download large volumes of data.

  7. Trouble ahead? • Already a lawsuit against the Large Hadron Collider • Claim it is a doomsday machine that could potentially lead to wormholes. • Could delay “red button day”
