To do… • Read C-44 • Copy the challenge question. • Open to your topographical map of Boomtown (September 12). • Draw an arrow representing the flow of sediments: • down Rolling River to the beach. • From the top of the ocean cliff to the base of the cliff near the beach • Label these arrows. • Copy the vocab: • Breakwater: A rock structure parallel to the shore that is used to slow erosion by reducing the wave’s (that hits the shore) energy. • Dredging: Removing earth material from under water. • Jetty: A rock structure built perpendicular to the shore that minimizes deposition in a specific area. • Longshore current: A stream of water in the ocean that runs parallel to the shore. • Seawall: A wall made of rock, concrete, or similar material built along a cliff or shoreline to reduce erosion.
