1st Amendment- Basic Freedoms THE BOY WHO CRIED WOLF: A Shepard's boy cried wolf when there was no wolf around. A townsperson said that he should stop crying wolf when there is no wolf. 2nd Amendment- Right to Bear Arms LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD: Little Red Riding Hood is walking through the forest delivering her muffins to Grandma. The big bad Wolf come up and tries to steal Little Red’s muffins. The Hunter comes to save her with an axe in his hand. The Wolf says he can’t have an axe. 3rd Amendment- Quartering of Soldiers SNOW WHITE: Snow White is staying with the Seven Dwarfs during a time of war. Dopey and Bashful tell Snow White that she can’t stay at the cottage anymore because the war is over with the Queen and the Third Amendment says that they don’t need to quarter others during time of peace. http://ivyjoy.com/fables/snowwhite.html
4th Amendment- Search and Arrest HANSEL AND GRETEL: Hansel and Gretel are walking in the forest. They get lost and find a house that is made of candy. They walk in and start eating it. The bad Witch that lives in the house captures them for trespassing. A policeman decides to search for them because they have been missing for over a week. He finds out that they are at the Candy house. He goes there, but the bad Witch says that the Fourth Amendment requires him to have a search warrant to be able to search her house. The policeman gets a search warrant from a judge. He then shows it to the Witch and enters the house to find Hansel and Gretel. http://ivyjoy.com/fables/hansel.html
5th Amendment- Rights in Criminal Cases THREE LITTLE PIGS: The Big Bad Wolf is accused of blowing the Three Little Pigs’ house down. The seven dwarves are the jury. Snow White is the judge. The Three Little Pigs are the prosecutors. The Pigs saw the Wolf blow their house down. The Wolf is claiming that he is innocent. He is found innocent because there wasn’t enough evidence against him. Later the Three Little Pigs find a tape of the Big Bad Wolf blowing their house down. But they can’t retry him in court again because the Wolf is protected from double jeopardy(which is right in the Fifth Amendment). http://ivyjoy.com/fables/threepigs.html
6th Amendment- Right to a Fair Trial SNOW WHITE: The evil Queen is arrested for trying to killing Snow White with a poisoned apple. A police officer comes to her house to arrest her. The Queen asks why because she has the right to know what she is being arrested for under the Sixth Amendment. The police officer tells her it is because she was trying to kill Snow White. The Queen says it’s not true! She gets a lawyer, the Mirror, and they ask for a speedy trial. http://ivyjoy.com/fables/snowwhite.html
7th Amendment- Rights in Civil Cases ALADDIN: Jasmine and Aladdin are getting divorced. Jasmine is suing for emotional damages. Aladdin wants a trial by a jury because he thinks that his wife’s excuse is silly. 8th Amendment- Protects people fromHigh Bail, Fines, and Punishment RAPUNZEL: Rapunzel is stuck up in a tower. Her evil mother says that she can NEVER come down from her castle. The Prince comes to Rapunzel’s castle to save her, but says that he will only save her when she gives him one million dollars. Then she remembers that the Eight Amendmentprotects her from high fines and cruel or unusual punishments. She tells her evil fake mother to let her down because she is violating her Eight Amendment and tells the Prince that his bail was too high. 9th Amendment- Rights Retained by the People ALLICE IN WONDERLAND: Alice comes back from Wonderlandand her sister demands her to tell her where she was. 10th Amendment- States’ Rights JACK AND THE BEANSTALK: Jack is about to go climb the beanstalk, but his mother says that he can’t climb the beanstalk. Jack says that he has the right under the Tenth Amendment because there is no state law or a law under the Constitution about not being able to climb beanstalks. http://fairytales4u.com/story/jackand.htm
11th Amendment-Rights Retained by the People ENCHANTED: The Witch (from the Cartoon World, a different country) files a lawsuit against New York, USA, but the Eleventh Amendment protects countries from filing law suites against other countries.
12th Amendment- Presidential Elections SNOW WITE AND THE UGLY DUCKLING: The ugly Duckling is running against the mean Duckling! To pick the President, the Electoral College (which is the seven Dwarfs) must vote twice to help decide who will win. They have to do this because it is listed in the Twelfth Amendment.
13th Amendment-End of Slavery LION KING: Scar use to use his hyenas as slaves, but now since the Thirteenth Amendment was passed slavery is banned and his hyenas are free. http://www.lionking.org/story/
14th Amendment- Civil Rights CINDERELLA: Cinderella is forced to clean floors, wash dishes, and cook for everyday for her step-mother and step-sisters. She is sick and tired of this. Her Fairy God mother floats down from above and tells her that the Fourteenth Amendment makes everyone equal. She thanks her Fairy God mother. Then goes to tell her step-mother that she is leaving for good and going to go find her Prince.
15th Amendment- Voting Rights THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG: The prince, Naveen, goes to vote for the new Senator of Louisiana in his city hall. He writes down his vote, but when he gives his vote to the poll collector, the poll collector says Naveen can’t vote because he is a frog. Naveen reminds the poll collector that the Fifteen Amendment promises equal rights for every man, no mater how they look or what race they are. 16th Amendment- Income Taxes RUMPELSTILTSKIN: The Congress want to put a tax on the King’s handspun gold, that Rumpelstiltskin made. 17th Amendment- Senatorial Elections ALICE IN WONDERLAND: Wonderland is voting for new Senators. They have to follow the Seventeenth Amendment’s rules that say that each state gets to vote for their own two senators, who will get to serve a six year term and each senator counts as a votes. The Snow state (the state where the White queen lives) has four people running: the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit, the Mouse, and the Red Queen. Who will win? 18th & 21st Amendment- Prohibition of Liquor GOLDILOCKS AND THREE BEARS:Goldilocks is in the Three Bears house. She sits on the chairs and finds the right one, but then she comes to the alcohol. At first she doesn’t touch it because the Eighteenth Amendment bans alcohol, but then she remembers that the Twenty-first Amendment repealedprohibition. 19th & 24th Amendment- Women’s Suffrage PRINCESS AND THE FROG: The princess, Tiana, comes to the city hall to vote for New Orleans’ new mayor. The poll collector says that she can’t vote because she is a woman. Tiana stands up and tell him that the NineteenthAmendmentgives women equal rights. To try to outsmart Tiana, the poll collector tells her that she needs to pay a tax. But she is no dummy, Tiana says that the Twenty-fourth Amendment takes away poll tax. 20th Amendment- Terms in Office, a.k.a. “Lame Duck” THE UGLY DUCKLING: The ugly Ducking was running for President and won! When he was sworn into oath, he had to agree to these terms that are listed in the Twenty Amendment. His term ends at noon on January 20th(four years after sworn in). If he shall die then his Vice President takes over.
22nd Amendment- Term Limits for the Presidency THE UGLY DUCKLING: Duck’s was President for eight years and wants to run again, but he can’t because the Twenty-Second Amendment prevents Presidents from serving more that a 2 four-year term. 23rd Amendment-Washington D.C. Suffrage SLEPPING BEAUTY: Sleeping Beauty fell asleep in D.C. wanting to express her opinion about a law dreaming that she could elect a representative. When she woke up from sleeping she turned on the TV and saw that the Twenty-Third Amendment was passed! This means that Washington D.C.’s population now counts when voting for Senators and Representatives, and she can now express her opinion on the laws by voting for the right person. Dreams do come true! D.C. NOW COUNT AS REPERSENTATIVES AND SENATORS IN CONGRESS!
25th Amendment-Presidential Succession THE UGLY DUCKLING: The ugly Duckling passes away and the people of QuackVille don’t know what to do. The Vice President, the pretty Duckling, reminds the country that the Twenty-Fifth Amendment says that if the President dies then the Vice President takes over. Don’t panic I’m your new President!
26th Amendment-18 year old Suffrage THE LITTLE MERMAIDE: Ariel just turned eighteen and she is so happy to be older! Today is also voting day, so Ariel goes with Flounder to vote for the new King of the Sea (King Triton, Ariel’s father). When Flounder turns in his votes, the poll collector asks why Ariel isn’t voting. Ariel says that she’s not old enough. The poll collector says that the Twenty-Sixth Amendment makes the age to vote eighteen. She is so excited that she can finally vote because now she can vote for her father! I CAN VOTE! 27th Amendment- Congressional Pay Raises SNOW WHITE: The seven Dwarfs wanted a pay raise because they thought they were working to hard in the Senate for that little of pay. They are not allowed to give themselves a raise until their term ends because the Twenty-Seventh Amendment says so.
Glossary • Bear: to hold an object • Civil case: a case where one party sues another because one party did something wrong. • Electoral College: a body of electors who formally elect the United States president and vice president. • Double Jeopardy: does not allow a person, who is accused of a crime, to be tried again for a same or similar charge. • Evidence: testimony of witnesses, records, documents, or objects that helps support the case. • Impeach: a formal process in which an official is accused of breaking the law. • Innocent: proven that you did not convict a crime. • Jury: a group of people who are brought to make the right decision on legal questions asked. Sometimes present to make sure the judge doesn’t get all the power in deciding legal questions. • Oath: a promise or statement that can’t be broken. • Poll collector: a person who collects citizens votes . • Prohibition: the banning of alcohol from the government. • Quartering: to give someone a place to stay. • Repeal: to take away. • Search warrant: a court order allowing law enforcement to enter and search your property without permission from the owner. • Succession: a person accuses a person or stealing their property. • Suffrage: the right to vote. • Trespassing: entering property without permission. • Trial:a case presented in front of a jury and/or a judge to determine if a person is guilty or innocent.
