  2. 4 Prompts • If you knew you were leaving to live on a deserted island, what THREE items would you choose to bring? Explain why each of the THREE items is necessary for your survival on the island. • What are THREE of the most important life lessons you have learned? Explain from whom you learned each lesson and explain how each lesson has changed your life/your perspective on life. • Imagine you were writing a survival guide for incoming seventh grade students. Explain the THREE most important aspects of how to be successful at Cedar Heights Junior High. • Social Studies essay choice (2): Using information and evidence from all of the documents to support your thinking, and using your own knowledge of history, write an essay that describes how industrialization impacted children.

  3. Introduction • Introduce your topic • Thesis is the LAST sentence Hook

  4. Major and minor supports A major support is 1 of the main points of your body paragraph. For example: Topic Sentence: Solar powered batteries are one of the first things I would bring with me onto my island. 1. They are rechargeable from a renewable source 2. A lot of portable things require batteries 3. Don’t need to bring many

  5. Minor Supports Minor supports, in this essay, answer the “why” of your major supports. • They are rechargeable from a renewable source • A deserted island is not likely to have an electronic power source • The sun is something I will have constant access to. 2. A lot of portable things require batteries • Flash lights, a main source of light at night requires batteries • Hand-radios require battery power. 3. Don’t need to bring many • Lighter weight in travel. • Fewer things could get lost on the island.

  6. Commentary What does commentary do? Turn to a partner and discuss what you remember about yesterday’s commentary.
