  21. Management Styles Managing a group of people is not an easy job! Managers approach directing people in different ways based on their management style. Management style The way a manager treats and involves employees.

  22. Tactical vs Strategic Management • Sometimes a manager must choose which style depending on the task at hand • Sometimes a manager must choose which style depending on his/her employees

  23. Management Styles Often happens when the manager has newer employees or ones that aren’t the best employees etc. Tactical Management A style in which the manager is more directive and controlling.

  24. Management Styles Managers trust employees to work without direct supervision and will seek their advice on important decisions. Strategic Management A style in which managers are less directive and involve employees in decision making.

  25. Advertisements for Managers! • Create a wanted ad for each of the three levels of management we discussed • Use Word or Powerpoint using 1 page/slide and put all three ads on one paper, as if in a newspaper • The ad should include a made up job opening which lists the type of work this manager would be required to do and the characteristics needed for this type of career, don’t forget hourly wage/salary! • Be sure to make it look like an ad you would see in the newspaper, with box around it etc. • Make sure it is 1 page/1 slide. Double check 5 times! Save it then print to tech office, make sure name is on it. • Example

  26. You're the boss in a predominantly male environment. The presence of a new female employee stirs up conflict because your company has not had a chance to conduct sensitivity training. Some of your male employees make inappropriate remarks to your new employee. She complains to you; in response, you sanction those responsible for the conduct. You also wonder if it would be wise to move your new female employee to another position where she would be less likely to draw attention
