Fire needs three things to live. • Heat (flames) • Fuel (wood, paper, books, cotton, etc.) • Oxygen (air) Take away any one of these things and the fire goes OUT!
Firemen use this knowledge to fight fires! • They use water to remove HEAT. • They use Foam to remove Oxygen. • They use axes and pike poles to remove fuel.
Fire Fighters wear protective clothing to stay safe. • Helmets to protect from falling objects. • Steel reinforced boots to protect their feet and legs. • Bunker pants/quick-hitches and coat, to protect from heat and falling hot liquid. • YOU don’t have this protective clothing.
Never Play with Matches or Lighters • If you find matches give them to an adult • Never play with a lighter • If you see a lighter, have an adult take care of it • Never play with fire of any kind • Playing with fire can cause your clothes to burn
What do you do if your clothes catch on fire? • Fire needs oxygen to live. • Rolling takes away the fire’s oxygen. • Running increases the oxygen and the fire gets bigger! • So What Should YOU do?
