Motivation and Goal Setting By: Lin Lawson
Motivation • No one can teach you how to think, you must motivate yourself to learn how to learn! • You are your own motivator. • Your motivation must come from within yourself. Others may try to encourage you, but you are the only one who can attain what you desire. You must convince yourself - you can!
Motivation Partner • Start with surrounding yourself with positive people. They will encourage and nurture you. • Stay away from negative people because they will discourage you and sabotage your dreams and goals.
Goal Setting • “If you don't know where you are going, you're likely to wind up somewhere else!” • Think of a goal as your final destination, if you don’t know what your final destination is, there is no way to plan on how to get there. Goal = Success
Have a Goal • Goals are like road maps; they get you from one point to another. • Goals provide the direction you need to reach your destination, the motivation to sustain you on your trip, and a way to measure your progress. • The best way to get results is to plan for the future, but live one day at a time.
Goals • Write a letter of intent to yourself, date it, and sign it. Put this letter some place where you will see it everyday. Go to a friend or fellow student and make a commitment to each other. It helps to be accountable to someone else. • If you develop your dreams into goals, and your goals into realities, then your realities will become your successes!
Goals • Study more effectively • Not going out with friends as often as you like • Get organized:A clean, tidy, and well-organized life are a must for the motivated mind. Physical clutter mental clutter. • Keep your life organized and you will find more energy and clarity in every day
SUCCESS = … • Finding Motivation • Setting Goals • Making a Commitment • Being Accountable
Summary 1) Having a Goal is like a road map it gets you from one point to another 2) When you surround yourself with positive people it will help you in the long run 3) You must be your own motivator 4) Get organized 5) Motivation + Goal = Success
