Genetic diagnosis of atypical non-autoimmune diabetes in the Mediterranean area Prof. Michel Marre
Monogenic diabetes study in the Mediterranean region • Cross-sectional, multicentre and multinational study covering the Mediterranean region to detect monogenic diabetes among patients suspected to be with atypical diabetes • Objective: to provide diabetes specialists with an innovative tool to diagnose new cases of atypical non-autoimmune diabetes among their patients in order to improve patient care • Methodology: genetic analysis of saliva sample with a PCR-based enrichment technology in combination with massively parallel sequencing at a unique visit
Inclusion / exclusion criteria • Inclusion criteria • Patients suspected of having atypical diabetes and followed for the disease in the different study centers • Adults and underage children • Selection procedure will rely on the investigator assessment, helped by the use of the MODY risk calculator (>25%) • Exclusion criteria • Secondary diabetes due to pancreatic disease, diabetogenic drug, endocrine disease • Type 1 diabetes as established by the investigator.
Genetic analysis • Performed by the European Genomic Institute for Diabetes (EGID) • Technique: genetic analysis of saliva sample with a PCR-based enrichment technology in combination with massively parallel sequencing at a unique visit • Results will be analyzed by EGID to establish the diagnosis of monogenic diabetes
