What do I study now? • The core Psychology topics Semester 1 • PYSC 1101 • PSYC 1106 Semester 2 • PSYC 1102
What do I study now? • Next issue • Select a preferred second major area • A further issue to consider • Consider a backup second major area • Do a topic from this second area in Semester 1 if possible • If you are going to be full time • Enrol in four topics each semester
Part-time Study? • Uni definition: 13.5 units (3 topics) per semester is deemed full-time • My definition: Anything less than 18 units (4 topics) is deemed part-time • Things to consider re part-time study • Think of studying at Uni as a (nearly) full-time job • The more other activities (e.g., work, family) you have the less sensible it is to do full-time study • Consider reducing your study load
Enrolling • Via the Web on the Flinders Uni website. • You use the Student Information System • You need to do two things for each topic • Enrol in the topic • Note: Options on the study plan • Register in classes (lectures if alternative times are available; tutorials; any other scheduled class) • In many topics, there will be more than one lecture per week • Tutorials may not start in the first week – check it out • Tutorials may not occur every week – check it out
Enrolment help • Go to the uni website and look up enrolment information • Uni help – these can’t typically help with topic choice/advice • Ask Trim • Enrolment Support Centre (Central Library) • Psychology degree help by the School of Psychology • We will run a session in Room 221 SSN • on Thursday 7th February • from 10-4
What if things go wrong at Uni? • Get help • Counselling Service • Your first year Psychology Coordinator (Lydia) • Your Director (or Deputy Director) of Studies • What if I don’t like (or struggle with) Psychology (or other subjects) • Seek advice • Consider changing topics or even your degree
BPsy (Hons) ONLY A meeting in Room 223 SSN Will start in about 15 minutes
Others • We have representatives from some of the second major areas • see them for topic and discipline specific advice • If you have any specific psychology or degree questions • see Geoff or Tracey (or me – but I am only here for about 10 minutes) • If you are enrolled in (or wish to enrol in) a combined BBSc/BA degree • see Trish Wescombe
