AIMS • To stretch the capacity of the Douzelage organisation • To give visiting delegations a broad and enjoyable social experience • To engage the wider community in Sherborne and the surrounding area
FUNDING • Bid to EU acknowledged - await result on EU website on 01/07/06 • Financial assistance confirmed from 3 local authorities • Local business sponsorship in progress
DELEGATIONS AND OBSERVERS Five Official Delegates are invited from each Member Town: • A Delegation Leader to attend the General Meeting, chaired by Ed Weber • A representative to attend the Education Committee Meeting • An expert/specialist to participate in the Symposium • Two youth delegates aged 17 to 25 to participate in the Youth Workshops Additional participants are welcome but will contribute to the costs of their stay. Observer Delegations have been invited from Lithuania, Malta and Slovakia
SYMPOSIUMRURAL COMMUNITIES:TODAY AND TOMORROW • HOW TO KEEP YOUNG PEOPLE IN DOUZELAGE TOWNS • YOUNG PEOPLE AND TRANSPORT • FACILITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE • ENGAGING YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE ARTS • THE INVOLVEMENT OF YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS
APPROACH TO SYMPOSIUM • Select project leaders • Produce short paper for basis of general discussion • Each town to circulate its papers to all other towns by end August for study at Symposium • Consider and establish best practice • Project write-up and report • Final report by end January 2007
