Requirements in Rule and Code(R277-531 and 53A-8a) • The Utah Effective Teaching Standards (UETS) will serve as the basis for district educator evaluation systems throughout the state of Utah. • The focus is on the improvement of high quality instruction and improved student achievement. • The standards describe what effective teachers must know and be able to do. • It is expected that educators will use the Utah Effective Teaching Standards to improve practice.

Utah Effective Teaching Standards (UETS) • Are broken into 3 parts: • Standard • Indicator • Rubric which indicates the level of effectiveness: • Not Effective • Emerging Effective (Provisional)/Minimally Effective (Career) • Effective • Highly Effective

UETS-based JPAS • The Joint Education Evaluation Committee (JEEC), which consists of JEA, teachers, administrators, and parents gave input and final approval on Jordan School District’s plan. They wanted a tool that was: - Objective - Valid - Reliable - Research-based
UETS-based JPAS(continued) • The observation portion of the JPAS was already aligned to the UETS and has remained the same. • The interview portion has been aligned to the UETS rubric and are no longer a yes or no response.
Who Will Be Evaluated and How? • This is your orientation and notification of evaluation this school year. • The evaluation cycle previously used in Jordan School District will be used for the new evaluation system. • The UETS-based JPAS will be the summative evaluation tool used to measure educator professional performance.
Who Will Be Evaluated and How? (continued) • Provisional and probationary educators will be evaluated at least twice a year using the UETS-based JPAS. • Career educators will be evaluated annually. (Administrators may choose to conduct full evaluations at any time) • A UETS-based JPAS will be done at least once every third year. • Interim Evaluations will be done the other years.
What happens if your total score from an evaluation is in the NOT EFFECTIVE Range? You will get help

Interim Evaluations • All Teachers, Special Education Teachers, & Speech-Language Pathologists will use the Educator Interim Evaluation • School Psychologists will use the School Psychologist Assessment • OT/PT’s will use the OT/PT Assessment • Counselors and Teacher Specialists will complete an Annual Work Plan

UETS-based JPAS Training • There will be numerous UETS-based JPAS trainings for teachers to attendfor both educator full and interim. • Course listings are on JPLS under the Professional Learning tab. • New Teacher JPAS classes will also be offered.
