The planets in order of their distance from the sun are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. [Pluto is now a dwarf planet, FYI.] 2. Explain why the surface of Venus is hotter than the surface of Mercury. 2. The surface of Venus is hotter than the surface of Mercury because Venus’s atmosphere causes a greenhouse effect. 3.
