  3. Early life • Caesar had two sisters, both called Julia. • Little else is recorded of Caesar's childhood. • In 85 BC Caesar's father died suddenly while putting on his shoes one morning, without any apparent cause,and at sixteen, Caesar was the head of the family.

  4. Known for • Conquering Celtic Gaul and invading Britain • Beginning Rome's transition from republic to empire

  7. Milestones • 44 BCa group of senators called Caesar to the forum for the purpose of reading a petition, written by the senators, asking him to hand power back to the Senate. However, the petition was a fake. • Was assassinated by a group of jealous senators.

  10. Did You Know • Caesar decided to use a solar measure of time that became known as the Julian calendar; his system is the basis of the modern calendar. He changed the name of the month Quintilis to Julius (July), after himself.
