Career of Choice. A NEED & an IDEA A community partnership assisting youth ages 15 to 17 to identify possible career choices. The 3-phased project provides on-site visits of local businesses and presentations of specific careers by employees in that field.

Career of Choice • A NEED &an IDEA • A community partnership assisting youth ages 15 to 17 to identify possible career choices. • The 3-phased project provides on-site visits of local businesses and presentations of specific careers by employees in that field. • Pre and Post workshops and meetings to prepare youth for the career exposure and develop career planning interests.
Collaboration Team: Florida Department of Children & Families Junior Achievement of Central Florida – Volusia County Children’s Home Society of Florida – North Coastal Division
Phase I: Junior Achievement Site Coordinator Introduces participants to the following: • Career Opportunities • Work readiness skills • Teamwork • The role of schoolwork in the workplace • Prepares youth for the business tour
Phase II: Business Tour Facilitator • Meet with business liaison to finalize details • Greet youth and share introductions • Interact with youth-review concepts discussed during junior achievement training • Encourage youth to ask questions, make comments • Conduct wrap-up session • Thank you to business contacts • Distribute career of choice post event surveys to youth
Phase III: Post-Tour Meeting with youth: • Reviewing Career Paths of Site Tour • Discuss possible career interests of the site visit or reasons for non-interest of the career • Assist youth in developing short and long term career goals • Design a Career Launch Map with youth based on career goals. • Helping youth with job searches • Registering in Employ Florida Marketplace • Researching Labor Market Statistics • Providing links to local One Stop Employment Centers • If the youth are to move out of county, referring them to the local RWB in their area • Preparing youth for future Business Contact: • Conduct interviewing skills with youth • Conduct resume writing with youth • Teaching youth to Dress for Success
