  1. Introduction to a tool for effective processesEnterprise Architecture and ArchimateWelcome!Context – The Enable Project and JISC Benefits RealisationIntroductions – Where are we with Enterprise Architecture?

  2. About The Day > • Short Introduction to Enterprise Architecture • Practical Session 1 – Jigsaw Group Exercise • About the ArchiMate Modelling Language • Practical Session 2 – using Archi • Break • Practical Session 3 – adding to the model • Case Study: Using EA to improve our External Examiner process • Summary and getting more information

  3. Enterprise Architecture and ArchiMate Modelling Raymond Reid

  4. Enterprise Architecture Data Technology Applications

  5. Enterprise Architecture Processes People Information Data Technology Applications

  6. Enterprise Architecture Processes People Information Data Technology Applications

  7. ‘Doing’ EA • Enterprise Architecture is both Process Product

  8. The Model

  9. Views of the model Process Maps Workflows UML Diagrams Reports Lists Archimate Views

  10. Practical 1: a Jigsaw Modelling ExercisePrior Experiential Learning Model (PEL) • In groups look at the PEL process outline • Using the cards provided, put together a model of the system

  11. A student submits a claim for PEL to cover a module on their Award • A lecturer acting as the PEL expert meets with the student to check the claimed experience is sufficient match to the Learning Outcomes • If it is, the claim is then passed to the University PEL committee • The PEL committee then decide if the claim is acceptable • If it is, the accreditation is then recorded in the Student Record System by Faculty admin PEL >

  13. Results of Exercise 1 The sheet we have passed around during the break shows our model of the Prior Experiential Learning process.

  14. Acquiring the Information for a Model

  15. Data Collection Stage

  16. Stakeholders Talk to

  17. Stakeholders Identify Talk to

  18. Stakeholders and Views Identify Talk to • Illustrate • concerns addressed • trade-offs

  19. Basics of ArchiMate Modelling

  20. ArchiMate Core Language Concepts

  21. Business Layer Concepts 1

  22. ArchiMate Relations

  23. Assignment > The STUDENT is assigned the role of PRIOR EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING CLAIMANT

  24. Triggering > The business interaction REVIEW CLAIM AGAINST LEARNING OUTCOMES is triggered by the business process SUBMIT THE PEL CLAIM

  25. Used by > Models the use of services and access to interfaces by roles, or collaborations The STUDENT RECORDS SERVICE is used by the RECORD PEL ACCREDITATION process

  26. The CLAIM REVIEW MEETING is an aggregation of the PEL ADVISOR and the PRIOR EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING CLAiMANT Aggregation >

  27. Business Actor > An organizational entity that can perform a behaviour

  28. An Actor can be assigned to a Business Role which is the responsibility for performing specific behaviour Business Role >

  29. A process describes the internal behaviour of an organization end to end Business process >

  37. Using Archi

  38. Archi Tool

  39. Practical 2 Part 1 Recreate the Jigsaw Model Using Archi, set up a model with the elements and relationships we created earlier using the Post-It notes. You should use our expanded version which includes details of the Technology layer.

  40. break

  41. Practical 2 Part 2Adding Additional Elements The original model we asked you to create is fairly simplistic and some aspects of the process are missing.

  42. Another part of the PEL accreditation process is the chance for the Student to appeal against the final decision. • If they wish to appeal they must lodge their appeal with the University PEL committee • The committee will then review the decision and inform the student if the appeal is successful or not. A successful appeal will lead to the Student Record System requiring amendment. • Add the required parts of the appeals process to your map PEL > Appeals

  43. They decide to add a PEL Progress Server to record the decisions at key stages in the PEL process and ask you to add this to the model so they can see how this could be achieved. • You need to work out the key stages in the process where a decision needs recording and add the event of recording these decisions by a relevant actor or role to the model – along with the relevant technology layer. • You can either use the Archi software to do this or your physical jigsaw version of the model. PEL > Recording

  44. We will have an another break now and afterwards we will look more at the use of model to develop an As Is .. To Be scenario and for spotting gaps and potential problems in a process Case Study
