  3. Colonial Williamsburg Williamsburg is the second capitol of Virginia. In 1698, the Statehouse in Jamestown burned down. The government relocated to Middle Plantation. A village was laid out and Middle Plantation was renamed Williamsburg in honor of King William III of England.
