ORAN Tools Survey Sub-title Thomas Tam/Mark Wolff | June 10, 2013 | CANHEIT 2103 Tech Committee face-to-face meeting
Survey Goals • to catalog tools used by ORANs • to understand which tools might be centralized (in the cloud) • to understand how CANARIE and larger ORANs might assist smaller ORANs • to understand issues common to multiple ORANs
Survey Questions • Network monitoring for internal purposes • list them, opensource/commercial and cost • If created internally, would you consider the tools usable, with some effort, by other ORANs? • If opensource, did they require extensive customization? • do you consider your tools adequate? • additional comments. • Network monitoring for customers/users • Network performance monitoring • Network capacity monitoring and planning • Internal Problem/Ticket System • Tools for customers to track tickets • Did we miss any tools, please list with comments?
Did we miss any tools? • Pleaselistwithcomments– BCNet • Configuration mgmt - I'massumingyoudon'twhatthosetoolsincluding Change Management and IP Address Management.Physical network mgmt - not includedhereeither.Syslog - used for general network support and events.TL1 Monitoring - used for ROADM system event monitoring (home grown system, used by CANARIE also).FSP NM - used to monitor ADVA ROADM network events.BGPMON.NET - used for route change analysis.NetFlow - traffic monitoring and analysis.
Conclusion and Discussion • to catalog tools used by ORANs • Will post the survey result in twiki • Would we need more • to understand which tools might be centralized (in the cloud) • Has any of ORANs consider cloud based tools? • Would cloud based tools provide benefits? • to understand how CANARIE and larger ORANs might assist smaller ORANs • What and how can we help? • to understand issues common to multiple ORANs • OK, but would be interested in something better • Some tools are great, sometimes difficult to config • Cost?? • Time • No dedicated tools, share with university
