Important Vocabulary • Norm-referenced: a grade or score determined as compared to other students • Criterion-referenced: a grade or score determined based on student performance as compared to established criteria (i.e. standards) • A rubric is not a grading scale; it is a way to conduct criterion-referenced scoring of student work
Important Vocabulary Marks = the number or “score” earned by individual students on a test or performance task Grades = the number (or letter) reported at the end of a period of time as a summary statement of student performance.
Grading Information • How will this effect teacher practice and what my student is used to? • Homework • Extra Credit • Zeros • Behaviors matter -- if not averaged into a grade, then where? • Completion of assignments, timeliness, participation
