8 Madrid Indian Film FestivalImagineIndiaThe Gypsies • Today we are proud we are growing at a firm pace being able to present to our public many more feature films in each new edition of the Festival. • 97 feature films from 20 countries represent the Eighth Edition of the Film Festival ImagineIndia. • Far behind we remember the previous editions of the Festival where we showed only a dozen of films. .
8 Madrid Indian Film FestivalImagineIndiaThe Gypsies • India is the central body of the Festival represented by about 40 films in nine sections. • The stars of the Indian Section are Shaji Karun’s retrospective, Satyajit Ray’s less known films, the first retrospective in Europe by the director of Karnataka, Girish Kasaravalli, the Bengali Tapan Sinha - four retrospectives that fulfil the contents and mark the seal of this section. • A powerful Competition Section reaffirms the momentum of the independent Indian cinema, presenting celebrated directors’ names such as Anurag Kashyap, Girish Kasaravalli, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Shyam Benegal, Pryas Gupta. Some of them are already seen at the festival, and others to be seen for a first time.
8 Madrid Indian Film FestivalImagineIndiaThe Gypsies • Our Asian Section grows up to almost 40 full length films this year, with Retrospectives of Eduard Yang, Kon Ichikawa, Won Kar Wai. • The Arab Section achieves 12 films, with only 3 last year. • Every year the Festival has its motto, and the Eight Edition Festival leading slogan is “The world of the gipsies in the cinema”. We have a rich selection of 10 – 12 films from India, USA, Hungary, Serbia, France, without the well-known Kusturica and Gatlif. • The Festival now has 5 Awards in the Asian Section, same as the Indian one. These are for Best Director, Best Film, Best Actress and Actor, Best Music. There will 10 Awards CHAKRA DE ORO that the Festival will grant. • Famous personalities of the Film Industry will take part in the Festival as Judge members, such as Maria de Medeiros, Chus Gutierrez, Guillermo Fesser, Isaki Lacuesta, Jordi Dauder, Kira Miró, Eduardo Chapero Jackson, Lucia Hoyos, Chema Rodríguez.
8 Madrid Indian Film FestivalImagineIndiaThe Gypsies • The Festival will take place in Madrid between May, 20-30, 2009, whereas in Barcelona it will be celebrated in the first week of June. This year’s edition of the Festival in Barcelona has become reality with the precious collaboration of Casa Asia and their audiovisual coordinators, CINE ASIA. • 11 intense days will take place in the Palafox • cinema, where will be celebrated the closing ceremony and the prize-giving of CHAKRA DE ORO to the awarded films. • It is our pleasure to tell our fans, the Festival has inaugurated a fascinating experience with the creation of the IMAGINEINDIA TV, a Spanish channel, related to peripheral cultures. This Channel will serve as an instrument that will cover directly the celebration and it will be possible to follow all events daily on-line.
