  3. This Session Includes: District Reading First Support for Reading First Coaches • Building capacity over the 5 years of the grant. • Focusing on sustainability through “Clusters for Coaches.”

  4. Memories Over the Years • 2002-2003 • 38 Reading First Schools with one District Staff Developer for support • 2003-2004 • same • 2004-2005 • 54 Reading First Schools with two District Staff Developers for support • 2005-2006 • same • 2006-2007 • same

  5. What is Clusters for Coaches? • Briefly… collegial coaching each other for sustainability • More information later on

  6. When did it begin? • August, 2007 – Vision • September, 2007 – Sign Up • October, 2007 – History Made

  7. Where did it come from? • Building capacity over the 5 years of our Reading First grant.

  8. What does it LOOK like? • Looks like: Grade-level Walkthroughs, Observations of Word Work lessons and modeling of Read Aloud with Accountable Talk, while taking notes on graphic organizers. • Plus FREE BOOKS for our Book Study of engaging picture books to plan for future quality coaching moments back at the ranch!

  9. Why did we need it? • To build on our strengths so that our weaknesses would disappear, we gradually released who was doing the hard work individually. • To build more collaboration and working smarter, we offered other models through site-based observations and conversations.

  10. What does it SOUND like? • Sounds like: Sharing Collegial Conversations filled with lots of COMPLIMENTS and Questions, Connections and Comments, while Agreeing and Disagreeing during Pre-Conferences, Debriefs, Viewing Videotapes and Analyzing Literature Books. • Smells and Tastes like: SNACKS!
