The Journey Begins • First discussed during collective bargaining in 1996 • Bargained and implemented in 1998 • Marked a collective bargaining focus on issues of teacher quality (TQ)
The Charge • Teacher Leadership embedded in workplace • Enhanced professional practice • Improve student learning experiences • Support, connect, and align with: • DIP • ISBE guidelines • ETA mission • collective bargaining agreements • mentoring best practices • Recognition, recruitment, and retention
Ten Things to Celebrate • Collaboration • ’98 - ’2001 TMP led by Oversight Committee • 2001-2004 TMP led by Teacher Leader (TL) and Oversight Committee • 2004-2008 TMP led by TL, Oversight Committee, and Steering Committee • Saturn/UAW/NEA Award in 2001 3. Federal teacher quality initiative (TQI) award in 2001- 2002
Ten Things to Celebrate • Partners with National-Louis University on four year teacher quality initiative in 2002 5. Charlotte Danielson’s Frameworks adopted as core “curriculum” in 2001-2002 6. Instrumental in securing PLC grant in 2001-2002 7. ISBE Approved status granted in 2001-2002
Ten Things to Celebrate • Partner with Columbia Teachers College to institute pilot mentoring cohorts in 2004 • Institutes two fulltime mentors based upon the NTC @ Santa Cruz model in 2006 10. In 2008 TL added to support the TMP and a TL added to support the connection to the new Teacher Appraisal Plan Implementation
